'Michiko Tsunoi quartet's performance is diverse and cultures. Her music
has been described as tranquil and of evoking deep emotion. Her music is
surprising in that, it delivers more than at first you would expect.
In 2001 I attended the festival of the Japan France Cultural Center in Paris
and the World Music Trade Fair(WOMEX2001) in Rotterdam.
I am currently, leading my own group with performances at Tokyo live houses and concerts.
Format
In cooperating my child hood memories with tradition and attempting to demonstrate my
awareness of my oriental origin, I hope to create music that encompasses the above with my
own individuality.
To achieve my goals I intent play my original music, Japanese traditional, gypsy and Chinese
modern music using music sheet sent directly from local Chinese areas and infuse
them with Jazz to make it more musically palatable to the wider listening populations.
I also hope to continue using my music to accompany character dances and art pieces.
The size of my group is dependent upon the needs of the music, it is usually quartet but
sometimes it is solo, duo or a trio. The instruments incorporated in my music are piano,
wood base, percussion, violin, flute or ethnic musical instruments.
In the future, other than Japan I hope to concentrate performing mainly in the USA and
Europe at festivals, concerts and theaters.
